The company corner
- Queensland’s register of licensed labour hire providers lets a user check whether a provider is licensed or find a licensed one.
- Victoria’s register lists all licensed labour hire providers in the state.
- South Australia’s page points hosts to the licensed labour hire provider register to make sure they are using a licensed provider.
- The ACT’s public register sits on the WorkSafe ACT website, and the release that marks its start says the register lets businesses, workers and the community verify a licence’s details.
The registers in one table
Each register read the same way, so what one shows and another leaves out can be seen at once.
| Register | What it shows | How it is searched |
|---|---|---|
| QLD · The register of licensees | Licensed labour hire providers, with a separate pending applications list. | Online, to check whether a provider is licensed or to find a licensed one. |
| VIC · The Labour Hire Licence Register | All licensed labour hire providers in Victoria: filters show licences that are licensed, expired, suspended, cancelled or refused. | By provider, with a subscription that notifies of changes to a licence’s status. |
| SA · The CBS Public Register | Whether a labour hire provider is licensed. | Online, from the Consumer and Business Services pages. |
| ACT · The public register on the WorkSafe ACT website | The details of licensed businesses, so a licence’s status can be checked before engaging them. | Online, by workers, businesses and the community. |
What a register entry shows
On Victoria’s register the states a licence can be in include licensed, expired, suspended, cancelled and refused.
Applications show too: Victoria lists the licence applications being assessed, and an objection to an application can be lodged within 14 days of notice of it being published.
A register entry is a status check. WorkSafe ACT’s 2021 release puts the register’s purpose as letting workers, businesses and the community check a provider’s licence status before engaging with them.
South Australia’s process has its own windows: an objection is lodged with Consumer and Business Services in writing within 14 days of the application being published, and the applicant gets 14 days to respond.
What a register does not settle
A pending application is not a licence: Queensland’s page notes a user cannot engage a provider whose application is still in process; the provider must hold a current licence.
South Australia’s page adds that where a provider is waiting on a decision, the host can ask for the email that acknowledged the application.
Victoria’s page covers renewals: a renewal appears on the public register once lodged, and the current licence stays active while the renewal is assessed.
When the check matters
The check belongs to engaging a provider: Victoria’s checklist says to check the register when engaging a new provider, and to confirm the company offering services is the business named on the register.
Victoria’s checklist also suggests reaching the provider’s nominated officer through the register’s contact details, so a host can satisfy itself who the licensed provider is.
The host business’s own duties are the subject of the question about using an unlicensed provider.
Where the official words are
Queensland’s register lines are Labour Hire Licensing Queensland’s, Victoria’s are the Labour Hire Authority’s, South Australia’s are Consumer and Business Services’, and the ACT’s are WorkSafe ACT’s. All were read on 13 October 2026.
